I am delighted to be collaborating with Nant-y-Bedd – an Award winning RHS Partner Garden during 2021 where I will be running environmental art & craft making courses. I will be leading charcoal making and painting with plant based inks & hand weaving on portable back-strap style looms. During these one-day courses we will be working within a breathtakingly beautiful setting. A magical, wild garden & woodland in the Brecon Beacons. I hope that you will find these courses immersive and restorative, and be inspired by new creative ideas & practices.
Artists Willow Charcoal Making
Saturday 9th October 2021, 10am-3.30pm
Learn to make your own artist’s charcoal over the firepit from willow grown and coppiced at the magical Nant-y-Bedd garden in the Brecon Beacons. You will have the opportunity to make small batches of your own charcoal for drawing with and also learn how to turn some of your results into ink. We will also spend time exploring some other plant based inks to paint with and a variety of hand-made, natural mark-making materials.
The area in which we will spend the day, Fforest Coalpit has a long association with charcoal burning and you will have the opportunity to learn about some of it’s history. Expect experiments in mark-making, texture exploring and a restorative, creative day spent surrounded by the beauty & tranquility of Nant-y-Bedd, the Garden in the Forest.
£60 including all materials, delicious seasonal organic lunch, tea & cake.
Places are limited to 8 people per course.
